Project Status: Chapter 1 Released! 〰️

Sanity Check is an episodic comedy RPG series about indie development and the struggles of the game design process. Dive into a strange world of dancing skeletons, cyberpunk diversions, and fractured mechanics from the depths of development hell. It’s time for a sanity check!

 CHAPTER 1: ENGINE TROUBLE

(That’s a link. You can get it on itch right now!)

Sanity Check is a game about the creative process, game design, and what it means to be an artist in the modern age. But...more specifically, it's a game about power-mad demon ladies, showboating skeletons and elder gods who just can't stick to the script. A hapless creator's first RPG Maker game spirals out of control as the stock assets take over and begin running the show.

It's time for a Sanity Check!

-Beat the combat scripting out of enemies to learn their moves!

-Experiment with unique equipment that radically alters your playstyle!

-Encounter hilarious monsters, each fight with its own unique dialogue!

-And even some secrets to find!

It may just be the first, but there's 2+ hours of content in this chapter alone! It's a big game that's only going to get bigger, so dive right in! Enjoy!

CHAPTER 2: THE QUEST FOR CONTENT

(That’s…not a link…)

Sanity Check Chapter 2 is the long-awaited continuation of the Sanity Check series. With the game’s hero kidnapped, it’s up to ascended NPC Savi to save the day. That demon lady from the last chapter has been hard at work designing an entire continent for you to explore, but unfortunately, her four monsterous Hell Lords appear to have different plans. Can Savi reunite with the hero before creative differences tear the whole game world apart?

It's time for a Sanity Check! Again!

-Recruit over a dozen unique hero characters to fight by Savi’s side!

-Explore a non-linear world and tackle the game’s four dungeons in any order you choose!

-Meet four hilarious bosses, each of whom has twisted their dungeon to fit their own creative vision.

-And even more secrets to find!

Sanity Check Chapter 2 is a massively ambitious upgrade from the previous installment, promising many hours of gameplay with tons of secrets to explore. It’s hard to believe a game this size could have been made by one person, almost as though…

ERROR!

Q: Wait, what?

Unfortunately, Sanity Check Chapter 2 is cancelled.

Q: Why?

To put it simply, I was a victim of my own ambition. I tried to make way, way too big a game for one person. In the end, the project started taking so long that it was actively hindering the quality. The jokes I had come up with at the start of development were now years old and painfully out of date. I realized that fixing all these little problems with the writing and design was going to put me on an endless treadmill of never being happy with the work, so I cut bait.

Q: So…is it cancelled forever?

Hard to say. It really hurt to give up on that many years of work. I think it was the right call, as I have way more active and promising projects now than I did when I was mired in Sanity Check development hell, but there was a lot of writing and storytelling in Chapter 2 that I was very proud of. Just knowing myself, there’s no way I’m going to let all of that go forever.

Q: What’s next for Sanity Check, then?

The series may be cancelled but the characters live on. You may even find cameos by them in some of my other games. As for Chapter 2, even if it’s unfinished, I’ve been debating ways to show it off to people. Maybe I’d do streams, or maybe I’d do a detailed breakdown on this very site.

The end of Chapter 1 promised that Sanity Check would return. Even if it’s a little late, I hate to break promises.
